Description

The Candide AK 121 "Candide's Favorite 2027" skis are designed for freeriders who love to carve their own lines through deep powder and challenging mountain terrain. It’s no wonder Candide calls this his favorite ski. With an impressive waist width of 121 mm, long rocker zones, and a lightweight C-Light Core, this powerful freeride ski combines maximum float with a surprisingly playful character. The Triple Radius Sidecut ensures stability during fast descents, while the flat camber profile allows the ski to turn easily in soft snow. A true powder ski for experienced riders who love to carve big lines, seek out natural features, and never want to miss a single day of fresh snow.

Terrain: Freeride & Deep Powder

The AK 121 is right at home in deep powder, open mountain slopes, and challenging backcountry terrain. Thanks to its 121 mm waist width and pronounced rocker, the ski floats effortlessly on top of soft snow. The sturdy construction provides support at higher speeds and during big landings. You can also make controlled turns on the piste, but the wide shape requires more effort during quick edge changes. For daily piste use, a narrower all-mountain ski is more efficient.

Profile: Powder Rocker with Flat Camber

The Powder Rocker profile combines 515 mm tip rocker with 485 mm tail rocker and a flat camber zone underfoot, measured at 184 cm. The long rocker zones provide maximum float and make the ski easy to turn in deep snow. Thanks to the flat camber, you can pivot smoothly and make slashes without the edges constantly catching in the snow. This makes the AK 121 feel surprisingly agile for its width.

Shape & Sidecut: Freeride with Triple Radius Sidecut

The AK 121 features a wide, freeride-oriented shape with dimensions of 149-121-141 mm and a ski length of 184 cm. The Triple Radius Sidecut combines three turning radii: 21 meters at the tip, 27 meters underfoot, and 23 meters at the tail. This geometry supports smooth turn initiation, stability at higher speeds, and controlled direction changes. The character of this wide freeride ski really comes into its own, especially in open terrain.

Flex & Construction

The AK 121 has a firm, responsive flex that provides support during powerful freeride descents. The C-Light Core combines lightweight paulownia with poplar wood, reinforced with fiberglass and carbon. This ensures a strong construction with plenty of pop and rebound. Weighing approximately 2,000 grams per ski at 184 cm, the weight remains relatively low for this width. The durable P-Tex 4000 base and wear-resistant Corund topsheet are designed for intensive use in challenging conditions.

Level: Advanced to Expert

This ski is designed for advanced and experienced freeriders who enjoy picking up speed in deep snow and technical terrain. The wide waist, sturdy construction, and long rocker zones require a good level of technique and control, especially when the snow gets harder. For beginners or recreational skiers who mainly ski on groomed runs, the AK 121 is less suitable.

Technologies: C-Light Core & Triple Radius Sidecut

The C-Light Core combines FSC-certified paulownia and poplar wood with carbon and fiberglass. This keeps the ski relatively light without sacrificing the sturdiness needed for powerful descents.

Triple Radius Sidecut uses three different turn radii to combine stability and agility. This allows you to make both long freeride turns and change direction more quickly.

Dual Mounting Points offers two recommended mounting positions: Candide and Regular. This lets you tailor the bindings to a more playful setup or a more traditional freeride stance.

Which ski length should you choose?

The AK 121 is available in 179, 184, and 190 cm. A shorter length makes the ski easier to maneuver between trees and in technical terrain. A longer length offers more stability at high speeds and extra float in deep snow. Thanks to the long rocker zones, the ski feels more agile than a traditional full-camber ski. Choose your length based on your body type, skill level, and favorite freeride style.

Bindings & Mounting

The Candide AK 121 Candide’s Favorite 2027 is sold as a bare ski without bindings. The ski has two recommended mounting positions: Candide and Regular. The Candide position is geared toward a more playful riding style, while Regular offers a more traditional freeride position. You’ll need to select a suitable binding separately that matches your ski boots and intended use. The bindings must be professionally mounted and adjusted, taking into account the chosen mounting position, boot sole compatibility, and brake width.

Stoked Expert Advice

The AK 121 is a strong choice for experienced freeriders who live for deep powder days and love to carve big, creative lines. The combination of a wide shape, long rocker zones, and a responsive wood core makes it particularly well-suited for challenging natural terrain.
