What are skateboard rails?

Skateboard rails are Polyurethane strips attached to the bottom of your deck.. Often they are rectangular, but there are also other shapes like the Enjoi skate rails or the Creature skate rails. Skate rails usually come in a set of 2 pieces with accompanying phillips head screws.. These are usually 4 or 5 cross headed screws.

Rails were especially popular in the 80s and 90s. Skateboards were standard equipped with these plastic rails. That's why they give your skateboard an old school look.

What are skate rails for?

Skaterails don't just give your skateboard a cool old school look, but they also have a number of technical advantages. We would like to list them all.

1. Your skateboard lasts longer.

Skate rails make sure the design of your board doesn't peel off after a few board slides. That way, your cool print stays visible longer.. They also provide extra strength. Your board becomes more rigid and less prone to tearing, cracking or splintering. Skate rails are definitely worth the investment because you can skate longer with your board.

2. Slides become easier.

With board- and lipslides you slide with the bottom of your skateboard over rails or curbs. The wood of your skateboard creates friction and you can get stuck. This is where skateboard wax but skate rails also help a lot.

Rails give less friction so you glide better on all surfaces. Both metal rails and stone ledges will smooth slide smoothly and you need less wax. A pure win-win situation.

3. Better grabs.

Grab tricks involve holding your board in the air. It can happen that your board slips from between your hands because of sweat or a bad grip. With the little extra at the bottom of your skateboard, you have more grip more grip during grab tricks. So you can grab your board better by mounting skate rails. Skate rails give you better slides and better grabs!

How do I mount skate rails?

When mounting your skate rails it is best to check where you want to mount them. Check where you want to mount them. We recommend to mount them approximately one cm from the edge. from the edge. Depending on your personal preference, you can place them closer or further away.

We explain step by step how to mount rails. There are two possibilities.

Option 1: Mounting with the corresponding hardware.

  • Step 1: Put your skateboard with the drawing upwards.
  • Step 2: Take a Philips head or Phillips screwdriver.
  • A screwdriver makes it easier, but a regular screwdriver will do the job too.
  • Step 3: Know exactly where you want to attach them.
  • As mentioned before, place them about an inch from the edge. You can of course adjust this to your own preference.
  • Step 4: Screw on the two outer bolts first.
  • Step 5: Now screw on the remaining screws.
  • Step 6: Make sure there is there is no play between the rail and the deck. deck.
  • Step 7: Repeat these steps for the second rail.

Option 2: Use double-sided adhesive tape.

This way you don't have to make holes in your skateboard. Use good tape, otherwise you'll lose it before you know it.

  • Step 1: Put your skateboard with the drawing upside down.
  • Step 2: Get the double-sided adhesive tape
  • Step 3: Cut a piece of tape that is slightly larger than the rail.
  • Step 4: Apply the tape on the position of the rail.
  • Step 5: Apply the rail to the tape.
  • Step 6: Cut away the excess tape.
  • So, you've attached your rails to your board. Now you're ready to do some awesome board slides.

1 or 2 rails?

Not every skater uses skate rails. For those who do, there are also two groups. There are skaters who always mount both rails and there are others who only mount one rail. Why do you use rails?

As mentioned before rails make it easier to glide. Some skaters even find it too slippery. If this is you, we advise you to remove the rail on the side of your heels. By doing so you will still have some of the friction of your board, which makes you less likely to slip or lose your balance when doing slidetricks.

Your own style of skating and personal preferences play a role here. If you like to skate really fast, 1 rail might be enough. Do you like the ultimate slide feeling? Then install both rails.

We recommend to install both rails in the beginning. If you slide too much you can always take one off.

Skate rails are worth the investment if you like board and lip slides. You will glide better, need less wax and your board will be more rigid. Nothing but advantages.
